BOLOGNA: THE FAIR CENTER
The fair complex of BolognaFiere is considered one of the most important national and European compounds because of the exhibitions being held and its strategic position in the European context.
The first event in the fair history of Bologna took place in 1888 at the Giardini Margherita that hosted the "Grande Fiera Emiliana", with three exhibitions : Music, Industry and Agriculture, Fine Arts.
In 1901 the first Fiera Campionaria Bolognese (Industrial exhibition) took place ; then from 1927 to 1940 the Fiera, review of "agricultural, industrial and trade forces of the region" was held in the new Littoriale sporting plant.
After the war, in 1947, the Ente Autonomo delle Fiere di Bologna (Local Fair Organization) was created and the exhibitions were held in the provisional halls of Montagnola gardens and the halls of Palazzo del Podestà.
In 1964 the building of the fair area was started and in May 1965 it was open in occasion of the 29th Fiera Campionaria.
The Fiera Campionaria became more and more international and many other exhibitions were added : the Fiera del Libro per Ragazzi (Bologna International Children's Book Fair), SAIE (International Building Industrialization Exhibition), Cosmoprof (International Perfumery and Cosmetics Exhibition) and EIMA (International Agricultural and Gardening Machinery Exhibition).
In 2002 Ente Fiera changed in BolognaFiere Spa : the conversion in public company allows BolognaFiere to obtain more possibilities to apply to the market of private capitals in order to support the growth and the development of new programs.
In 2006 the calendar foresees 24 events, most of them having an international importance:
ARTE FIERA (International Exhibition of Contemporary Art), SAIEDUE (International Exhibition on Interior Architecture, Building Renewal technologies and Finishing), SANA (International Exhibition of Natural Products-Nutrition- Health-Environment), CERSAIE (International Exhibition of ceramics for the Building Industry and Bathroom Furnishing), LINEAPELLE (International Exhibition of leathers, accessories, components for footwear, leather goods, leatherwear and furnishing), MOTORSHOW (International Car and Motor Cycle exhibition.
