MOUNTAIN BIKE ON THE APENNINES
The Cą Vecchia Hotel is ideal as a starting-point for excursions in mountain bike, since it is situated in the tourists cycle district of the Bolognese valleys that offers many itineraries for pedalling along evocative roads that lead from one valley to another.
The entire landscape is in fact drawn as a cobweb of roads and paths, ideal for cycle tourists and for MTB amateurs.
Among the most interesting routes, we can suggest the Ciclovia della Seta, the Via De' Castiglioni from Sasso Marconi to Castiglione dei Pepoli and the Via degli Dei from Bologna to Florence.
The Ciclovia della Seta (the silk cycle road) connects the Adriatic Sea to the Tyrrhenian Sea and particularly Venice to Lucca, basic centers of the silk production in Italy from the 14th century. The road line goes near Rovigo, through Ferrara and Bologna; then Pisa and finally it reaches the sea at Tirrenia, near Leghorn. In the Bolognese area the route goes from Malalbergo and along the Navile canal it gets to the station. From Via Zamboni it reaches the Reno river, towards Sasso Marconi, Marzabotto, Vergato and Porretta. On the whole there are 417 km of routes along histor5ic paths and small roads to cover in Mountain Bike: thanks to the good offices of the local organizations involved, the route was completely provided with proper road-signs, more than 1000 traffic signs are installed all along the route.
The Via degli Dei (Gods road) connects Bologna to Florence through old paths divided in 2 steps from Badolo to Fiesole to make the most of an old and neglected communication road of the Apennine.
The itinerary from Sasso Marconi to Bologna running along the Reno river is less compelling: it is an easy cycle excursion on both sides of the Reno river, that allows to visit the Casalecchio dam and the Bologna Chartreuse.
