OUR LAND: SASSO MARCONI
Characteristics
Immense nearly one hundred square kilometre, the territory of "Sasso Marconi", at 76 meters of altitude, rises to 665 meters of the rocky mountain " Monte Adone". The landscape is extremely diverse and characterized by different geological layers, where it is often possible to discover fossils, some even of marine origin. Very important communication roads pass through the territory making it a significant economical and industrial location: the "Porrettana" highway, the A1 motorway, the Bologna-Pistoia railway and "G. Marconi" international airport, only 15 km away.
Worthy characteristic landscapes to visit of the first Apennine are the "pliocenico Contrafforte" and the "Rupe", the numerous patronal villas and the rural buildings of historical interest ("casetorri"), the presence of "villages", the marconian "places", the close historical park "Monte Sole" and the city of Misa. Between the typical products we bear in mind the wine, protected D.O.C. by trademarks, proposed in the local restaurants.
The cultural activities and the popular traditions space from the
very old “Fair of Pontecchio” (la “Fira di sdaz”)
regulated since 1768 to the more recent “Tartufesta”,
that takes place in different areas of the territory. Last but
not least we have to suggest the presence of qualified areas (a
cinema- theatre equipped even with a large outside stage) for shows
that stably host cinematographic reviews, prose, musicals, dances
and theatre for children that are followed by many people from
other districts. Thanks to these resources Sasso Marconi has set
up a valid tourist plan that accounts of the potential and the
environmental and cultural specificities. (Recently Sasso Marconi
has been recognized with a regional law as a "locality with
a tourist economy". From a historical-geographical point of
view Sasso Marconi has always had a strategic importance since
it marks nearly a limit beyond which the panorama evolves : towards
South the “crinali of the Apennine”, towards North
the vales, the inhabited surroundings and the belt of the city.
Sasso Marconi’s tourist vocation has a dichotomy, on one side
there is the future and on the other tradition and nature. In fact,
the country is integrated to the metropolitan area of Bologna and
is a reference point of logistic support for the city trade events,
the meetings and free time excursions, thanks to its development.
At the same time the town has always been a strong summer attraction
for excursions, agritourism, and possibilities to do marvellous strolls
by foot and horse.
Of the traditional popular events that still survive are: the weekly
market (Tuesday at Sasso is almost a holiday), the fair of Pontecchio
(the trains on that occasion will make a stop during the Bologna-Porretta
line) and the several parochial festivals. In this country development
and tradition cohabit, just like in the denomination of the Town
Hall that unifies a simple name as “Sasso" to the name
of Guglielmo Marconi, the scientist who has enormously contributed
to spread particularly sophisticated instruments of communication.
Protection of the environment and tourist-economic development
at Sasso Marconi is possible thanks to the defence and the valorisation
of the hills and fluvial areas, the revaluing of the city centre
of the main town, of the historical villages, the small villages
but also to a hospitality that pays attention to the needs of workers
or tourists that transit towards the traditional destinations of
the great Italian cities of art.
